Our Unsung Hero: Andrei Mila
We’re still recovering from a fantastic night at the inaugural Brighton and Hove Hotel Association Awards last week.
We were desperately hoping that our handyman Andrei Mila would win the 2014 Award for Unsung Hero. He was short listed but unfortunately lost out to Sam Patterson from Hotel du Vin.
But to us at Strawberry Fields, he is still our Unsung Hero! We thought we’d share with you some details from our award entry so you can see why…
What Andrei does
Andrei Mila joined the Strawberry Fields team as a part time handyman and back up housekeeper 6 years ago. Always enthusiastic and positive, he quickly became a key member of our team and looks after the building with pride and professionalism.
How he does it
Andrei volunteers for extra work and training and does everything that is asked of him and more. He even turned up on his own time to help paint the seafront railings a few years ago and his motto is ‘ No Problemo’ or ‘Come on…it’s my job’.
There are countless examples of when he has stopped a problem becoming a crisis – leaks that were mended, gutters cleared, bannisters repaired but it really took the biscuit when on night porter duty last year, one of our guests was unwell. Andrei took him to hospital, sat with him until he was admitted and visited him on his day off the next day.
He has recently completed a complex renovation project of 20 rooms at Strawberry Fields, juggling the needs of our guests with tight deadlines to complete 2 rooms per week. As you can see from the image of one of the rooms below he has done a fantastic job!
Why he should have won in a few words
Andrei goes not just the extra mile, but the extra marathon and is quite the most positive person to work with. I am incredibly proud to know him and incredibly lucky to have him on my team.
Thank you Andrei!
